Characteristics of a People's Leader

A people's leader understands the needs of their team members and can connect with them on a personal level. These leaders can lead their people through difficult times and help create a positive atmosphere for people’s growth and successes. They set an example for others and make decisions in the people's best interest.

Leadership is a complex skill that requires both technical and non-technical skills. Technical skills include strategy and planning, while non-technical skills include charisma and people skills. A people's leader should have all the following qualities:

1. Vision.

2. Passion.

3. Courage.

4. Integrity.

5. Compassion.

6. Dedication.

7. Servant Leadership

Vision: A people's leader must have a vision for their organisation and the people working within it. A leader's vision should be based on what they want the organisation to become and what they wish the individual employees to grow and develop. With a clear vision, an organisation will be able to move forward at its intended path, and its employees will be able to capitalize on their potentials.

An excellent way to develop a vision is by thinking about what you want your organisation to look like ten years from now. Once you have a clear vision, communicate it throughout the organisation.

Passion: A people's leader must have a passion for their organisation and the people. Passion is a vital factor in being successful as a leader, as it drives people to achieve goals, inspire others, and work harder. Leaders who lack passion often make decisions based on personal gain or ego rather than what is best for their company or staff.

There are many ways to show passion in leadership. Some examples include having a strong belief in what you are fighting for; always putting the needs of your employees first; always being willing to learn; having a positive attitude no matter what and being able to empathize with others. If a leader has these qualities, they will be able to motivate their team and lead them to be successful.

Courage: Courage is another critical ingredient for a successful leader. A people's leader must have the courage to make the tough decisions for the benefit of their company and the people. A leader must also be willing to take risks, which can be unnerving, but eventually may lead to successes.

There are many examples of courageous leaders throughout history. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years, but he did not give up on his country or himself. He has maintained to be a powerful symbol of strength and bravery to many people worldwide till this date.

Another example is Bill Gates, who started as a computer geek and turned himself into one of the richest men in the world. He took risks by founding Microsoft and became an incredible leader in the industry.

These are two different examples of influential individuals who have inspired and lead others to the same directions and achieve greatness respectively.

Courage can also mean standing up for your team members, especially when encountering difficult and unreasonable customers. It also means apologising for your team's mistakes appropriately. On the contrary, leaders without courage will pass the blame to their teams.

Integrity: Integrity is one of the essential qualities a people's leader must have. A leader must be honest with the people and have the integrity to lead the team effectively. Honesty is vital because if a leader lies, it will create distrust in the team. Leaders have to be trustworthy, which means they should always follow through on their promises. If a leader is not responsible, the people will not believe that they will keep their words.

A good leader also needs to be conscious of their own emotions which may affect how they lead. Leaders need to stay calm and make sound decisions. When leaders are emotional, it can adversely affect their teams and decision-making abilities.

As a whole, integrity is an essential quality for a great leader. With that, morale and trust among employees in the company will be higher. Employees will be feeling happier. Staff turnover rate will be lower.

Compassion: Compassion is a quality that is equally important for any leader. A people's leader must have compassion for their organization and the people. Compassion allows a leader to understand and empathise with one another, leading to a more harmonized working environment. It also helps leaders empathise with the needs of the others, which can inspire employees to work harder to achieve the common goals.

Compassion also creates a more friendly environment where people feel more comfortable in seeking help when needed. Leaders who have empathy are more likely to be successful because they can connect with their followers on an emotional level. It will hence lead to better communication within the workplace. Your employees will be more willing to open themselves up, thereby strengthening the trust and confidence of your team.

Having compassion enables leaders to be open-minded and flexible when making decisions, leading to positive outcomes for their organizations.

Dedication: A people's leader must be dedicated to their company and the people. This dedication sets them apart from others and makes them successful leaders. A leader must always put the needs of their company and their employees first. They must be willing to go above and beyond to ensure that everyone is successful.

A people's leader will always be willing to accept new challenges, whether big or small they may seem at first. And they will not back down from any challenges along the way. They will always also hold themselves to the highest standards. A people's leader is patient, understanding, and caring. And are always looking out for the best interests of their company and the employees.

Such dedication is a crucial quality of any great people leader. Being a leader, he has to be able to inspire their followers, motivate them, and organize them to collaborate with one another to achieve the common goals. Great leaders must be able to assess their abilities and learn from their mistakes to improve. They also need to be able to manage difficult situations calmly and confidently.

Servant Leadership: As the term suggests, servant leaders are to serve. They serve and enable team members to shine. They also ensure that their team's needs and well-being are being taken care of. Such leadership skill is hence a characteristic of a great people leader. They do not command or control. Instead, they influence team members and promote cooperation and teamwork. A stark difference between servant leadership against traditional leadership is that the latter focuses on the end goals while the former focuses on people's development and facilitating the processes for the achievement of results.

As a whole, a people's leader must possess the seven characteristics as indicated in this article. They should be honest, trustworthy, and serve the workforce with dedication. They must be able to make decisions that are best for the people and are willing to stand on their believes and decisions.
