Identify Sources And Impact of Of Problems On Job Responsibilities
In any organisation and job role, learners will encounter problems related to work. It is hence imperative for them to learn to identify the sources from which problems may arise.
To do that, learners are led through a series of short topical contents to understand sources from which symptoms of potential problems may be identified and possible sources of problems. This will help them to identify symptoms that could lead to potential problems at the workplace as well as the impact of the problem on his/her job responsibilities and other parties involved. With that understanding, they will learn to identify the possible root causes of the problem using appropriate tools and techniques. By the end of the topic, learners will be required to identify sources, possible root causes and impact of problems based on a given case study, which will serve as the spine and background story that runs throughout the course.
You will learn:
-
Sources from which symptoms of potential problems may be identified
-
Recognise symptoms that could lead to potential problems at the workplace

Frame The Problem-Solving Approach
With the knowledge gained in identifying possible root causes of problems, learners need to learn to frame the problem-solving approach i.e. understand the stages a problem-solving process, the parties and resources involved as well as the levels of escalation in the department and/or organisation i.e. a reflective mechanism of the whole problem-solving process.
To facilitate that, learners will need to understand that types of corrective actions may vary depending on the context of the problem at hand e.g. project management, quality of product and services, performance management, equipment/system operations or compliance. Learners will be required to choose an organisational context when they frame the problem-solving approach based on the given case study.
You will learn:
-
Types of corrective actions
-
Factors to consider in selecting suitable modes of communication
-
Reflective mechanisms for the entire problem-solving process
Generate & Evaluate Ideas
With possible root causes identified and the awareness of problem-solving framework, learners will learn to generate and select ideas to solve the problem (LU3). To facilitate that, learners will apply using creative and logical thinking to generate ideas. They will them apply methods to determine the strengths and limitations or constraints of each selected idea. The purpose is evaluate the eventually shortlisted ideas using pertinent criteria to choose the most desirable ones as solutions to the problems. With the given case study, learners will present the chosen ideas to the class via a role play scenario, together with identified area of impact from implementation of the action plans.
You will learn:
-
Procedure for evaluating selected ideas for problem-solving
